Opolo Wines L.P. is seeking a experienced Vineyard/Labor manager to lead the day to day farming operations and labor at its multiple estate ranches in the Willow Creek and Estrella AVAs in Paso Robles, California. Labor management will also include various hospitality functions and winery operations throughout the year.
Opolo Wines L.P. is a well-established operation with over 250 acres of premium wine grape vineyards along with 67 acres of dry farmed, certified organic Walnuts, and home of the Willow Creek Distillery and the Inn at Opolo. Opolo is seeking a vineyard/labor manager who wishes to become an indispensible part of one of Paso Robles most distinguished wineries.
Position:
This key role is a management level position with responsibilities that include, but are not necessarily limited to:
• planning, directing, and coordinating ethical day-to-day vineyard, orchard and overall ranch operations
• ensuring tasks are completed safely and efficiently, while achieving established production and quality goals
• coordinating activities of farm labor contractors, labor crews, equipment operators, and other related personnel to maximize efficiency in a safe environment.
• collaborating with the ownership, general manager, viticulturist and winemaking staff on planting, grape growing, and harvesting solutions and decisions
• implementing and “owning” vineyard safety and compliance programs
• integration of proven farming techniques along with new technology to improve crop quality and efficiencies
• Work with Viticulturist to maintain S.I.P. certification
Requirements:
The ideal candidate should meet many, if not all, of these requirements:
• minimum five years hands on experience in farming operations, and all phases of viticulture including vineyard management and development or
• B.A. or B.S. degree in Agriculture, AgBusiness, Viticulture, or related field
• proficiency in speaking English and Spanish
• experience managing vineyard and winery labor crews across multiple locations
• strong communication and computer skills.
• knowledge in vineyard safety, safety training requirements, record keeping, and compliance
• strong work ethic with excellent organizational and problem solving skills
• ability to perform physically demanding tasks outdoors in changing weather conditions
• ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, seasonal night duties, and periodic overtime
• valid California driver’s license with clean driving record
• passion to be part of a team driven to produce high quality grapes and ultra-premium wines
• honest and ethical conduct with integrity
