Growing winery/vineyard operation is seeking a Vineyard Manager/ Wine Maker to work with us at our location 1.5 hours outside New York City. We are an award winning maker of both red and white varietals. We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced individual who wants to make a name for themselves by being hands on in all parts of the process. Supportive and active owners working with you to grow this 10 year old business.
Vineyard Responsibilities include:
• Hands on and oversee vineyard crews. Perform pest and disease control, pruning, tying, suckering, shoot positioning, leafing, thinning, frost protection, irrigation, harvest and other viticulture practices.
• Maintains farming, safety and other supplies.
• Provides day-to-day guidance and oversight of vineyard employees; actively works to promote and recognize performance.
Winery Responsibilities include:
• Produce high quality wines from both on and off site fruit.
• Manage the crush through bottling.
• Recommendations for new equipment.
• Work with Tasting Room Manager to build wines to both industry and regional standards.
• Work well with the team.
Qualifications:
• We are looking for a person who wants to succeed in this business. Degree in Viticulture or related industry experience is necessary
• Minimum of 3 years vineyard and wine making experience with good working knowledge of vineyard practices.
• Must have knowledge in vineyard development, trellis construction, irrigation construction and maintenance, planting, training of personnel, vineyard labor activities, spray application, fertilization, tractor operation, mechanical and hand harvest operation
• Strong knowledge of best practices in winery production.
• Good judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
• Ability to understand any and all safety requirements and cautions
• Ability to perform the physical labor necessary for vineyard and winery work
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and seasonal night duties
