Job Description:

Tommasi Family Estates is historically and today a standard bearer of the Amarone appellation, one of the most important quality ambassadors of the Veneto, and one of the leading fine wine producers in all of Italy. The family-run estate was founded in 1902 by Giacomo Tommasi in the village of Pedemonte, which lies in the heart of the Valpolicella Classico region that extends north-west of Verona. The family owns 234 acres in Valpolicella Classico, making them the single largest land owners in the area. Over the years they have steadily expanded their holdings in other areas of the Veneto and other regions, and now own a total of 1,400 acres under vine between the Veneto, Tuscany, Basilicata, Puglia and Oltrepo Pavese. 

The Sales Manager will work closely with Tommasi, as well as the winery’s US importer VINTUS, distributors and accounts to develop strategic sales and further enhance the image of the Tommasi Family Estates wineries in the United States. In Tommasi you will be working with a highly professional winery that has experienced tremendous global success and established in the United States a foundation for accelerated growth that you will spearhead. VINTUS is one of the country’s most dynamic young importers, with a portfolio consisting of many of the world’s great wineries (www.vintus.com). You will work with a national network of distributors focused on selling fine wine.

Reporting will be directly to Pierangelo Tommasi.

While the US Sales Manager will be responsible for working the entire United States, your time and resources will be especially focused on the brand’s development in several key markets, through the following priority activities:

A) Sales Activities and Management: 

1. Spend time in all markets with distributor and VINTUS management and sales representatives increasing account distribution and sales.
2. Develop and maintain relationships with key on- and off-premise accounts. Leverage relationships to explore business opportunities
3. Help define portfolio strategy and develop the Sales and Marketing Plan.
4. Develop, implement and track sales plans for all markets. 

B) Marketing & Communications Activities: 

1. Support the execution of the Tommasi Sales & Marketing Plan.
2. Work with, coach and educate distributor sales teams on Tommasi priorities and brand standards.
3. Organize and coordinate visits to the market by Tommasi personnel.
4. Conduct trade and consumer tastings and seminars to convey the quality and philosophy of the Tommasi wines.
5. Conduct educational sessions for wait staff, retailers, and other trade customers in key markets.
6. In coordination with marketing team, arrange for journalist, trade and consumer visits to the estates Italy.

C) Reporting: 

1. Provide Tommasi with monthly sales performance reports versus goals.
2. Monitor and report on competitor activities.
3. Report on general market conditions and opportunities.

An ideal candidate for these responsibilities will have the following qualifications:

1. Minimum 5 years’ experience and success in the wine and spirits industry at the importer or wholesale level.
2. Existing sales experience and account relationships in one or more key markets, including the market where the candidate resides.
3. Ability to develop and maximize the impact of brand budgets.
4. A self-motivated, positive, energetic attitude and ability to work with the various winery, importer and distributor teams.
5. Willingness to work hard and desire to take on the challenges of managing the entire country. 
6. The vision and patience to formulate, develop and execute a long-term plan.
7. Fluency in Italian (spoken and written) and a strong familiarity with the geography and regions of Italy.
8. Exceptional speaking, writing and analysis skills.
9. Computer skills that allow you to effectively use or learn standard business programs and sales reporting systems.
10. Knowledge of fine wines and desire to continually self-educate.
11. Ability to lift 40 pounds.
