Position Summary:
Under minimal supervision and acting on own initiative, the Quality Control Technician II is responsible for working closely with the Quality Control Manager and other Quality Control department staff to ensure all standard operating procedures are performed; exercising independent judgment and self-reliance. The emphasis for this position is on incoming bottling materials, verification of processes and equipment, and maintaining appropriate documentation of QC activities for internal and external customers.  This position will also have dotted line reporting to the applicable Bottling Manager on day-to-day issues and duties as assigned by the Quality Control Manager.

Duties/Essential Functions:

·         Oversees the QC Hold program and ensures product disposition and rework is completed promptly

·         Prepares reports for external and internal customers including fill test and analytical results for compliance and micro results for external customers

·         Responsible for measuring, reporting results, and investigating root causes for Micro Monitoring

·         Acts as an information resource for QC Technicians and Bottling Department employees in QC Manager’s absence

·         Performs all duties of QC Technician I when production demands dictate need

·         Clearly communicates QC program to trainees to facilitate learning

·         Assists other departments with tasks; setting up cork sensory trials, reporting bottling, analytical, and micro results to internal and external customers and performing new material trials

·         Provides QC support to DFV mobile bottling locations

·         Assists with incoming material testing program including sampling materials, cor extraction forces, and sensory analysis; interprets results and report findings

·         Assists with ISO QMS oversight, HACCP, and cGMPs

·         Monitors inventory and orders lab supplies when needed

·         Maintains winemaking bottle age program

·         Verifies and performs daily data entry

Equipment and Materials Utilized:

·         Standard office equipment including a personal computer and on-premise cell phone

·         Standard winery chemical analytical techniques and instruments such as Aeration Oxidation Apparatus for testing sulfur dioxide.

·         Standard packaging quality control instrumentation such as those used for the analysis of glass, corks, and label 

Position Requirements:

Education: 

·         High School Diploma, some college (preferably in a science-related major)

Experience: 

·         4+ years of experience in positions requiring excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and strong organizational skills

·         Proven ability to exhibit a professional demeanor, especially in stressful situations

·         Proven ability to make independent decisions; communicate and defend them if necessary

·         Ability to work independently in a fast paced environment with accuracy

·         Willing to work overtime and any shift if necessary

·         Microbiology experience is recommended but not required

Knowledge: 

·         Able to gather facts and use basic analysis techniques to determine if product specifications are being met

·         Strong problem solving skills

·         This position may require a small amount of travel

·         A valid California Driver License and proof of insurability are required

·         General understanding of basic composition, bottling practices, and storage conditions of wine
