Trefethen Family Vineyards is seeking an experienced Accounting Assistant to join our team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a family owned estate winery in the Oak Knoll District of the Napa Valley. Under the supervision of both the Human Resources and Accounting Managers, the Accounting Assistant serves as an integral member of the accounting department. The Accounting Assistant is responsible for ensuring the highest standard of payroll services and to assist with the company’s general accounting functions. 

Responsibilities 

•  Maintains payroll information by collecting, calculating, and entering a high volume of data for vineyard and winery weekly payroll.
•  Assists in resolving payroll discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
•  Generates payroll information by providing reports upon request.
•  Maintains payroll operations by following policies and procedures.
•  Protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
•  Posts daily inventory transactions for multiple locations and assists with reconciling month end physical to perpetual variances.
•  Assists with Accounts Receivable, including daily deposits, invoicing, collections and data input.
•  Reconciles monthly bank statements to the general ledger.
•  Controls small petty cash fund; authorizes disbursement and fund replenishment; prepares necessary entries.
•  Manages office supplies and services within defined limits.
•  Recommends changes in procedures or internal controls in accordance with company guidelines.
•  Assists with filing Federal, State and Local agency returns including but not limited to the EDD, TTB, Board of Equalization and Napa County.
•  Assists with month end/year end close for all winery, farming and vineyard entities.
•  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications 

•  Payroll and Accounting Experience of 3+ years required, with a general understanding of California wage and hour regulations as well as accounting practices and principles.
•  Microsoft Office intermediate skills required.
•  Wine industry experience required.
•  Knowledge of AMS accounting software and ADP web-based payroll preferred.
•  Ability to work independently in a team environment, well organized and detail oriented.
•  Possess strong communication, time management, task prioritization and interpersonal skills.
•  Discretion due to frequent contact with confidential material. 

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment, with standard office equipment available. Work is sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. 

Physical Requirements

•  Operate a desktop computer using keyboard and mouse, employing repetitive arm and wrist motions.
•  Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
•  Specific vision abilities require close and distance vision.
•  Sit for long periods of time.
•  Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
•  Occasionally bend, stoop, reach, kneel, crouch or climb stairs.
