Delicato Family Vineyards has an immediate opportunity for a Research & Development Winemaker position in Manteca, California.

Position Purpose:
Acting on own initiative, the Research and Development (R&D) Winemaker will be the focal point for all R&D projects across multiple facilities. The R&D Winemaker will determine, design, and implement winemaking experiments that will produce higher quality wines, develop wine styles that will meet customer requirements, and create greater operational processing efficiencies.
Essential Duties:
- Drives Research and Development Projects:
- Develops protocols for various trials
- Coordinates and collects samples for sensory and analytical evaluations
- Oversees technical sensory evaluation
- Collects analytical data, writes reports, and presents data on findings to key stakeholders
- Continues to grow and challenge the status quo in their area of expertise, using gained knowledge to improve wine quality and processing procedures
- Technical liaison between Delicato and its colleagues in industry and academia
- Carries out small lot fermentations, using equipment such as forklifts, hoses, small crusher, press, barrels, etc.
- Provides instructions, as required, to ensure successful completion of trials
- Liaison between Winemaking and Grower Relations to evaluate viticulture practices in pursuit of improved wine quality
- Participates in all sensory evaluation of juice and wine
- Provides support to winemaking staff as needed
- Conducts benchtop trials as necessary
Minimum Requirements:
- BS in Fermentation Science or Enology strongly preferred or BS. in related science with relevant winery experience
- Five or more years winemaking or wine production experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Excellent wine sensory skills, communication skills, organizational skills and proven research skills
- Strong computer knowledge and MS Office (Outlook, Work, Excel, Powerpoint) skills are required
