Position Purpose:

Manages accounting operations and reporting, which includes General Accounting, Credit, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable.  Act as a strong “right-hand” to the Vice President & Controller, develops partnerships throughout the organization and provides critical decision-making support.  Implements and maintains a system of internal controls to ensure company assets are safeguarded and all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with accounting policies and US GAAP.  Provides leadership in cost control to ensure optimization of spending across the organization and supports the financial planning function.

  • Develops group and individual performance plans in alignment with Company goals and objectives; communicates clearly and defines individual and group objectives; maintains level of productivity in unit.
  • Trains employees to do their job; sets standards for work performance.
  • Monitors performance and provides feedback to direct reports through formal and informal performance feedback; regularly communicates with staff to achieve mutual understanding and desired results.
  • Recognizes and addresses performance strengths and limitations of subordinates.
  • Manages employee attendance to ensure compliance with Company standards; approve/monitor overtime.
  • Communicates and supports Company policies and decisions in a positive manner.
  • Develops staffing needs, selects new employees, makes recommendations in job evaluation and compensation, and recommends termination actions.
  • Conducts team meetings with department employees; includes monthly safety topic, ISO, DOE and other applicable training.
  • Handles employee issues, concerns, and complaints in an objective and confidential manner.
  • Provides employees with a safe, comfortable, and rewarding work environment.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees the general accounting functions, which includes inter-company accounting, financial reporting, balance sheet management (excluding inventory related items), and reconciliations, accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Ensures that credit risk is balanced with business objectives, targets are met and that only valid claims with proper management authorization are paid.
  • Ensures policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected.
  • Establishes accounting processes, performance reporting, and decision-making support aligned with key strategies of Delicato Family Vineyards.
  • Supports and drives process improvement initiatives: process definition, accounting and reporting metrics.
  • Leads annual audit process with the Company’s independent auditors, including the preparation of the annual GAAP consolidated financial statements.
  • Produces summary reports related to spending and analyzes alternatives to control/reduce costs where ever possible.
  • Provides technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all company entities. At times, this may include involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions.
  • Ensures that company financial records are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance.
  • Assists and supports all other accounting teams.
  • Works closely with Information Services (IS) to ensure that the accounting system continues to operate as required.  Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to IS to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met.
  • Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records and is responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations.
  • Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities, noted above. Responsible for continued development of these associates.
  • Leads and manages the following direct reports: Finance Manager, Accounts Receivable Technician, Accounts Payable Technician/Clerk.
  • Conducts, as required, assigned financial studies and surveys to collect, summarize, and analyze financial actions.

Non Essential Duties:

  • Ensures departmental activities are consistent with meeting the company’s stated commitments.
  • Builds strong relationships with other functional leaders to recommend and implement solutions to company issues and financial IS system infrastructure improvements.
  • Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compile a variety of special reports as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • CPA required, with an undergraduate degree in accounting preferred; MBA or CMA would be a plus.
  • Over 10 years of combined Public Accounting and Private Industry experience, required, within a consumer products business would be preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years management experience required; manager experience in Public Accounting will satisfy experience requirement.  Proven leadership experience, with demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams and have the ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions.
  • Experience in analyzing business performance and developing financial plans within a manufacturing environment desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting, required. Use of SAP (or another similar integrated ERP system) is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Modern accounting, cost accounting, and financial concepts.  Strong Excel spreadsheet and database skills.
