Family owned vineyard in Indianapolis, IN is seeking winemaker for future winery. We are seeking a motivated individual who will be responsible for all wine production from the grape processing to the bottle. They will be responsible for all laboratory work, winery sanitation, cellar management, filtering, blending, TTB cellar records, future staff training and inventory management. Winemaker will be responsible for presenting different small batch wines to panel to determine future varietals and blends for the winery. This is a great opportunity for a winemaker looking to be part of building a winery from the ground floor.
Essential Functions of the Job:
· Develop, review, and assess wine production operations on a continual basis to improve efficiency and wine quality.
· Daily set-up and calibration of laboratory equipment.
· Plan and oversee staff scheduling, training, advancement, evaluations, and general work of winemaking production employees in all activities.
· Responsible for safety compliance & training.
· Helping with vine cultivation & management.
· Assisting in organizing harvest.
· Craft wines of the highest quality, meeting style and production targets, and meeting Brand objectives
· Participate in tasting, development of wine blends, and new products in order to support short and long-term winemaking goals.
· Set-up various wine and juice bench trials, including heat and cold stabilization.
· Oversee inventory master plan for all lots and products, reconciling overall usage.
· Ensure blends meet legal specifications for varietals, vintage, appellation, and specified oak targets.
· Implement Food Safety Fundamentals
· Manage Safe Quality Food certification and assist/direct audit process within the winery.
· Comfortable on a computer
· Vineyard Manager with quality assessments of grapes prior to harvest and bulk wines prior to finishing
· Working knowledge of grape processing, filtering, racking and bottling equipment
· Familiar with a large number of grape varieties and wine styles
Qualifications:
· Bachelors of Science Degree in Enology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Food Science, or related field, or Associates Degree in wine making
· Applicants that are not US Citizens must have a valid US Work Visa to apply.
· Knowledgeable of major aspects of wine production, equipment, and safety regulations.
· Experience: Minimum of three years in wine production
· Well-developed tasting skills, ability to detect and describe subtle differences in wine.
· Must be flexible and able to work overtime up to 7 days per week during harvest.
· Ability to pass a drug screening and have no felony convictions.
· Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
· Ability to effectively present recommendations through logical and analytical analysis.
· Self-motivated, innovative, and resourceful problem-solver.
· Must be organized and attention to detail oriented.
· Must be capable of working within constraints of deadlines.
· Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and databases.
· Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Wine Production Software.
· Class B Driver License, Forklift License, and Pesticide Applicator License is a plus.
