Job Description:

The General Store Assistant Manager is primarily responsible for the direct supervision of all General Store Attendants including labor and scheduling recommendations, staff supervision and maintaining standards of performance and training materials, as directed. This position requires strong attention to detail, an ability to multitask and exceptional customer service skills. The General Store Assistant Manager will also be responsible for building and arranging attractive retail displays and managing inventory under the direction of the General Store Manager.

Managerial Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads General Store shift meetings to review hot sheet training and operations information with General Store coworkers.
  • Manages and directs shift coworkers to achieve consistent, exceptional execution of guest service.
  • Ensures that all standards and guidelines are upheld in all areas of quality, presentation, performance and education.
  • Performs shift settlement tasks to ensure safe handling of all cash and receipts for proper processing.
  • Oversees completion of shift assignments and allocates additional running assignments to maintain room cleanliness and professional appearance of all aspects of facilities and service.
  • Makes labor scheduling recommendations based upon coworker performance and volume patterns.
  • Oversees and reports on training progress and recommended improvements.
  • Executes daily assignments based upon scheduled shift responsibilities.

Daily Duties, Functions, Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service:
  • Ensure that all guests are welcome and given prompt courteous service at all times.
  • Manage customer traffic and give constant direction and support to coworkers during volume hours.
  • Fill in where needed to ensure guest service standards and efficient operations.
  • Promptly respond to customer inquiries and complaints.
  • Answer customer phone calls and respond to customer service emails.
  • Pack, verify and process all sales orders for sales reps.
  • Management and Staffing:
  • Execute training of employees while creating a positive, productive working environment. Identify new training needs and continually strive to develop your staff in all areas of service and professional development.
  • Check daily side-work tasks and follow up, as needed, to ensure readiness for each shift.
  • Performs labor cuts during assigned shifts as dictated by customer volume and/or as a means of disciplinary action.
  • Lead shift meetings and review hot sheet topics. Update hot sheet with new pertinent subjects.
  • Direct guided employee beer tastings to review and refresh beer education topics and general tasting notes.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, county and municipal regulations that pertain to health, safety and labor requirements.
  • Be knowledgeable of Retail department policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair and consistent corrective action for any and all violations of company policies, rules and procedures.
  • Financial & Cash Management:
  • Maintains adequate levels of small change to fulfill cash needs during service.
  • Complete drawer settlement and deliver cash to safe room following SOP standards.
  • Prepare weekly cash deposit for armored car pickup. 
  • Enter and verify sales data into accounting software.
  • Process, pack and ship online (E-store) orders. Maintain website sales items and item descriptions.
  • Effectively create and run sales reports and analyze sales data to track revenue trends and inventory information.
  • Orders & Inventory:
  • Perform regular counts of General Store beer inventory and complete end of month merchandise inventory according to Inventory SOP.
  • Input beer orders according to General Store Beer Order SOP.
  • Receive and process orders through inventory management software.
  • Order merchandise as directed with the assistance of the General Store Manager.
  • Build and arrange displays according to directive.
  • Track inventory of General Store office supplies and reorder as necessary.
  • Additional Duties, Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Manage point-of-sale back office data entry.
  • Update signs and posters according to directive.
  • Prepare forms, orders, and reports on time and in an organized fashion.
  • Assists with other projects as assigned by General Store Manager.

Key Job Skills:

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in Retail Management.
  • Experience working similar retail environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience working with inventory management software encouraged, but not required.
  • A positive attitude and a desire to learn.
  • Must work well independently as well as with the team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Schedule:

  • 40 hour work week, with occasional overtime
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and some holidays.

Work Environment:

Tröegs Independent Brewing is a climate – controlled brewing and packaging facility.  This position works primarily in the General Store, and occasionally in the production brewery. This is a representative list of what might be encountered in the brewery:

·         Hot water,

·         Steam,

·         Pressurized vessels, and

·         Loud working areas.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time – up to 8 hours
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and walk constantly for long periods of time – up to 8 hours
  • Ability to safely navigate the General Store and Production Brewery work areas, including crowded spaces, wet/slippery floors, and/or stairs.
  • Ability to lift, carry and maneuver cases of beer weighing up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to lift, carry and maneuver full ½ barrel kegs weighing up to 200 lbs. with the assistance of another co-worker or a two-wheel dolly.
