The Ranch Manager is responsible for leading teams  of individuals with varying levels of experience and education and developing them to execute quality performance, problem solving, and customer service (internal and external) at an assigned ranch location. The Ranch Manager develops and maintains an understanding and adherence to operational budgets, customer interaction, vineyard safety measures, and other functions relating to advancing viticulture and farming techniques.

What You Will Do

  • Communicates and interprets overall organizational directives and applies them to team and individual objectives.
  • Supervises workforce including daily work scheduling and employee assignments.
  • Functions as the Gallo Vineyard Inc. (GVI) liaison that interfaces with the organization.
  • Provides input to management regarding individual team member performance.
  • Develops team to solve day-to-day operational issues.
  • Organizes and facilitates team meetings.
  • Initiates, implements and manages projects with a short-term focus.
  • Conducts presentations and formal training programs.
  • Ensures GMP, a safe working environment, and quality assurance.
  • Conducts safety training programs.
  • Monitors and ensures achievement of goals, objectives and timelines.
  • Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
  • Coordinates, schedules, and monitors equipment repairs ensuring work is conducted in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Orders and procures all parts, materials, services, and supplies needed to repair and maintain all GVI equipment.
  • Monitors and schedules the preventative maintenance on all GVI vehicles and equipment.
  • Coordinates equipment maintenance and repair activities with ranch and development activities.

What You Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree plus 2 years of ranch operations experience OR 6 years of ranch operations experience.
  • Required to travel to various company owned ranches along the coast (to include extended hours, weekend and late night assignments).
  • Required to possess or obtain a California Pest Control License or Applicator License.
  • Required to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license and successful completion of background check. Required to obtain a California driver’s license or appropriate state driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

What Will Set You Apart:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Viticulture or Business Administration plus 5 years of ranch operations, wastewater management or compost management experience.
  • Bilingual speaker and writer (English/Spanish).
  • Experience reading, analyzing and interpreting common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Experience responding to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
  • Experience writing speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.
  • Experience effectively presenting information to top management, public groups and boards of directors.
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint at an intermediate level; MS Access at a basic level.
  • Skilled in applying advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations and permutations.
  • Skilled in applying mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
  • Experience defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Experience interpreting an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Experience motivating team members to achieve plan goals.
  • Experience to handling unusual or difficult inquiries/situations through direct personal action or refer to the appropriate individual.
