JOB SUMMARY: The Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance of all vehicle and mechanical equipment within the Company. The purpose of the position is to perform skilled work involving the maintenance and repair or gasoline or diesel driven motors and related auto equipment, machinery and tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Maintains proper record keeping, including vehicle maintenance service logs.

 Performs routine and complex preventative maintenance, overhaul and repair services of automobiles, light and heavy trucks, mechanical equipment and other gasoline and diesel driven motors.

 Services may include changing oil, air filters, fuel filters, fan belts, radiator hoses and sparkplugs.

 Inspects, adjusts and replaces necessary parts.

 Tunes and adjusts engines/equipment.

 Repairs and welds automotive bodies.

 Removes, repairs and replaces component parts and assembles automotive systems.

 Inspects and performs brake repairs, including the replacing of the master brake cylinder, brake pads, calipers and fluid lines.

 Replaces or repairs clutch on manual transmissions.

 Maintains and calibrates shop tools, machinery and equipment.

 Completes service orders to document parts and labor used in service and repair activities.

 Must be able to respond to emergency and after-hours calls on nights, weekends and holidays.

 Obtains oral and written quotes in the procurement process for parts, materials and equipment.

 May perform manual labor associated with construction and maintenance.

 Tests the operation of vehicles and light trucks upon completion of repairs/maintenance to ensure proper functioning and safe operating condition.

 Performs major repairs by replacing major components such as engines, brakes, heating and air conditioning systems, drive trains and transmissions, including disassembling, inspecting and replacing or repairing worn or broken parts and components.

 Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

 High School Diploma or GED.

 Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

 Certification from a technical school strongly preferred.

 Minimum of 3 years’ experience repairing all types of vehicles and equipment.

 Experience with electrical diagnostics, hydraulics, braking systems, drivelines, air systems, steering mechanisms, suspensions and HVAC systems (certification required).

 Strong technical knowledge of all vehicle systems, including engines.

 In-depth knowledge of with diesel and gasoline systems.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, write, speak and fully comprehend English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from co-workers and direct reports. Bi-lingual (English/Spanish preferred).

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Intermediate Skills:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited
  • standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License with air brake and passenger endorsements.
  • Clean DMV record.
  • Certificate from a technical school preferred.
  • HVAC certification required.

Must be able to see, stand, walk, talk, write, type, sit, use fingers/hands, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell. This position also requires the ability to lift 100 lbs. and work outside in inclement weather.

In addition, this position requires the ability to work with mechanical parts. The noise level is usually moderate, but hearing protection may be needed under certain circumstances. This position requires the ability to manipulate components in hard to reach places with hands and/or tools.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

The Mechanic works closely with his/her team, the General Manager, Winemaker and Vineyard Manager.
