Vice President of DTC (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

This position provides an opportunity for tremendous personal growth while leading two iconic wine industry brands to the next level.  The successful applicant will manage and lead a largely seasoned team of wine industry professionals.  The successful applicant will be able to grow our business in the following areas: Customers satisfaction, wine sales, club additions and length of retention, while broadening and elevating the talents and abilities of the team.  A rigorous understanding of wine and the wine business combined with experience of high-quality customer service, attention to detail, staff management and event management, will provide the platform for success.  The right person, performing at their very best, will find this position a challenging and deeply rewarding experience.

 

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Direct to Consumer Hospitality and Sales:

•  Recruit, hire, mentor, train and retain a talented team  
•  Develop and implement strategies to increase sales and profitability

•  Maintain goals for sales and adjust programs to reach goals

•  Manage our on-site staff incentive programs

•  Develop and manage regular training programs for all staff

•  Manage and develop an active and vibrant outreach referral program 
•  Oversee wine inventory management and on-site wine shipping requirements
•  Review guest experiences in all feedback channels
•  Manage the acquisition, and choice of, onsite non-wine merchandise

Events and Experiences:
•  Develop and maintain unique brand experiences that enhance sales and connectivity
•  Plan, organize, and implement unique winery and wine club events at the wineries and off-site
•  Supervise association events, such as Passport, Winter Wineland, and others
•  Manage all outside pouring opportunities at industry gatherings, restaurants or hotels
•  Ensure branding remains creative but consistent in all customer touchpoints with the brand

Reporting:
•  Review all weekly, monthly and yearly sales reports as submitted
•  Participate in senior management meetings, preparing and presenting reports as necessary
•  Participate in annual company budgeting, preparing sales reviews and forecasts as required


Management and Team Building:
•  Supervise the daily weekly and monthly on-site staffing schedules including special events
•  Promote the company vision to staff, guide the company culture, and lead by example

•  Confront and deal openly and honestly any performance deficiencies

•  Recognize, celebrate, and build on team successes
•  Meet with staff members regularly for check-ins, feedback and individual development
•  Lead weekly meetings, create incentives, and team building drives
•  Direct ongoing education on: Wines, winery, vineyards, brand stories, sales

•  Direct ongoing training on: POS & CRM systems and all operational procedures
•  Conduct annual performance reviews

•  Work promptly and closely with HR on any serious or developing issues.

 

•  Keep excellent records.

Safety and Maintenance
•  Oversee safety coordination, OSHA compliance, employee training and permitting. Responsible for any food handling and food management staff certification, as well as TIPS program training, event training and ABC course training
•  Ensure staff adheres to all policies, procedures and governmental regulations
•  Identify gaps in operations compliance and procedures, and act promptly to rectify
•  Oversee cleanliness, maintenance and routine cleaning of all public and private locations


Qualifications:
A minimum of 10 years of experience, including a minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior manager role working for a winery, or wine related hospitality, is required.  Wine business knowledge to include budgets and forecasting.  A proven ability to set and utilize sales goals is a must. College degree level education considered a plus. The ideal candidate will possess excellent people (customer and staff) management skills with an ability to be fluid and flexible.  A person who leads by example with a can-do attitude, and strong work ethic. A natural leader with high energy who possesses excellent verbal/written communication skills.
