Tasting Room Associate (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Job Summary:   The primary functions of this position is to promote the sales of wine and non-wine merchandise, enhance Winery’s company image and provide exceptional customer service to guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

 Sales & Service (60%)

  • Greet guests promptly and warmly; over the phone and in person
  • Create a memorable experience for all guests
  • Build relationships by engaging them in authentic, personable conversation
  • Educate guests on wine, winemaking techniques, and wine history
  • Explain the stories behind the wines and the winery
  • Actively promote the sale of our wine, tasting and experiences and non-wine retail merchandise
  • Sell Wine Club memberships
  • Collect guest contact information
  • Answer inquiries, offer suggestions and provide information regarding our property, special events and local attractions
  • Be consistently professional in all of your communication; verbal, written and non-verbal
  • Ensure messaging is consistent and is in line with direction given by your manager
  • Respond to guest inquiries and concerns promptly and with courtesy
  • Keep up-to-date regarding local events, communicating information as necessary to customers
  • Responsible to distribute promotional materials to guests
  • Serve wine to guest in accordance with company policy and ABC regulation
  • Keep up-to-date with ABC regulation and adhering to established policies and procedures regarding the handling and service of alcoholic beverages
  • Keep up-to-date with Inter-state shipping regulations and adhering to established policies regarding the shipment of wine

 Daily Operations (20%)

  • Ensure smooth operations of daily operations; including effective and appropriate communication, successfully managing traffic flow throughout the day and overseeing that guests are being engaged and entertained
  • Perform opening and closing duties
  • Work as a team with other associates to reach set daily and monthly sales targets
  • Responsible for accurately processing transactions on register system of wine and non-wine retail products, wrapping of merchandise, processing forms for shipment of wine and non-wine retail products
  • Responsible to perform routine maintenance of the sales floor and outside areas throughout shift
  • Maintain and keep bar, retail, and Courtyard areas clean and tidy according to established standards and policies
  • Maintain and keep accurate inventories
  • Assist with off-site pourings as requested

 Experiences (20%)

  • Conduct various levels of experiences. May include, but is not limited to, daily public tours, pre-arranged group and/or private tours, sit-down wine tastings or trade/VIP guest experiences.  Experiences will be based on company guide outline
  • Responsible for the set-up, tear down and cleaning of tastings and experiences

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: High school diploma or GED required. One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Computer proficiency in Lotus Suite, basic database management, MS Office, (Word, Excel), Internet, RMS, bLoyal

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

Weekends, Holidays and some evenings required
