Sustainability Specialist (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

Job Summary: 

Under limited supervision, the Sustainability Specialist assists with the research, development, implementation and administration of sustainability goals/programs at the Francis Ford Coppola and Virginia Dare Winery properties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Project / Program Research & Development: (60%)

  • Will assess and measure current sustainability performance of winery facilities and provide continuous improvement recommendations in the following areas:
  • Water conservation
  • Energy conservation – electrical & fossil fuel
  • Renewable & Clean energy
  • Electrical peak load shedding programs – Demand response
  • Green building
  • Water supply and treatment
  • Wastewater recycling
  • Waste reduction, reuse & recycling – solids, wastewaters, air emissions
  • Will understand business environmental and development goals and perform research, analysis and provide recommendations for improvements that align with business goals and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Will stay current on environmental and sustainability issues relevant to Federal, State, local regulation and Industry.
  • Will stay current on latest Sustainable technologies, best practices, incentive programs
  • For each improvement recommendation will provide justification reports which cover ROI, feasibility and risk analysis, regulatory drivers, ongoing impact to business and operations.

 Training and developing a culture of sustainability: (20%)

  • Demonstrates a commitment to facilitating the implementation and acceptance of change within the workplace, develops a culture of sustainability through coaching, guiding, nurturing and developing the right people; “walk the talk”.
  • Develops and delivers training programs targeted at developing a culture of environmental sustainability and improving performance with regard to following best environmental and sustainable practices.
  • Develops Train the trainers to enable departments to deliver their own environmental and sustainable practice training.
  • Drives, communicates, and supports company sustainability programs in a positive manner.
  • Attends various community or industry related events supporting sustainability and reports back with identified opportunities and ideas.

  Administration of Sustainability programs: (20%)

  • Collects data, tracks performance against set goals
  • Assists with processing of applications for energy efficiency rebates
  • Serves as the point person for Green/Sustainable certifications – completion of forms, self-assessments, and external audits. Shares our participation and what that means with internal teams and puts together information regarding our programs for newsletters, sales team, marketing and hospitality departments.
  • Performs gap analysis and provides reports comparing the company current status versus desired status with regard to Sustainability goals

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Engineering, Management or Sustainability; or five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills:  

  • Commitment and strong beliefs in sustainability from both a business and environmental perspective
  • Possess ability to execute programs with a team approach in a persuasive and productive manner
  • Ability to support proposed initiatives by showing real calculated savings and ROI.
  • Prepare clear and concise reports, proposals, and written materials of a technical nature
  • Develop and implement program performance metrics with technical and statistical data
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Power Point Database, & Reporting).
  • Project Management, organizational and planning skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple ongoing tasks.
  • talent in identifying opportunities to build strategic relationships to help achieve business goals
  • Proven experience in delivering formal presentations that are effective and suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to communicate effectively with members of varying professions.

Knowledge:  Federal, State and local environmental regulations

Physical: Able to sit at and operate a computer.  Must be able to lift 45 pounds occasionally. Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

  • Must possess a valid California Class “C” Driver’s license and be willing and able to drive
