Job Summary: Performs all bottling related activities and demonstrates an advanced level of skill. Works with limited supervision. Assists the Manager and Supervisor with monitoring of the process and training / coaching of Bottling Technician 1 & 2’s. May periodically be deputized to lead the bottling team in the absence of the Bottling Supervisor and/or Bottling Manager.

Other duties include, rework, Wine Family Pack Out, regular housekeeping, and other department duties as assigned, ensuring daily bottling schedule is achieved while maintaining a focus on safety, quality and efficiency.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • 50%: Must be proficient at performing all duties of a Tech II and demonstrate an expert ability to operate all bottling equipment.  Able to coordinate daily packaging supplies to the line in an efficient manner consistent with 5S practices.  Assists with training of bottling personnel on equipment operation and bottling techniques that ensure wine quality and package specifications are met.
  • 20%: Performs sanitation of bottling equipment and the work area, assists with training to ensure personnel are properly trained in sanitation and is meeting the standard. Regularly inspects the bottling equipment for cleanliness, notifies supervisor when deficiencies are identified and assists with coaching to improve individual performance.  Performs changeovers and clear bottle jambs unassisted.  Must be able to trouble shoot potential problem areas and communicate with supervisors and maintenance as needed.
  • 10%: Provides training to Bottling Tech 1 and 2 staff members on bottling equipment operations. Leads the crew in the absence of the Team Lead. Takes initiative to problem solve bottling schedule conflicts and understands how to delegate and assign tasks to bottling employees during downtime.
  • 5%: Measures and calculates bottling volumes, completes work orders, tracks incoming supplies and compares with weekly bottling schedule. Completes daily bottling report.  Recognizes anomalies in measurements and investigates losses that exceed normal operations, including missing bottling materials.
  • 5%: Understands the QA process and Quality standards and can perform various QA checks, DO, CO2, Fill Volume, and others as needed.
  • 5%: Attends annual safety training as required for position and refresher training as needed, using and maintaining personal protective equipment as specified for bottling tasks. Promotes safety awareness amongst the staff and demonstrates proper safety in work habits.  Comply with sustainability policies and practices by supporting programs for conservation, energy efficiency, and recycling.
  • 5%: Under the direction of the Cellar Manager or Team Leads, must be able to perform all duties of Cellar Seasonal position during harvest period and beyond (usually August through October).

Supervisory Responsibilities:  May be asked to lead the crew (8-10 people) in the absence of the Bottling Supervisor and/or Bottling Manager

Job Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • High school degree, ability to perform more complex math calculations.
  • Three to five years of experience in wine bottling or similar industry is required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:  

  • Thorough knowledge of bottling equipment and understanding of bottling principles.
  • Ability to follow all department safety, sanitation and production procedures.
  • Able to perform quality work efficiently, with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
  • Must be self-motivated, with a positive attitude.
  • Able to read and write in English.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts and schedules.
  • Able to sit/stand for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  • Able to visually concentrate on rapidly moving bottles at rates of 20-200+ bpm for a minimum of 9 hours per day.
  • Able to frequently stretch, reach, bend and pivot to perform this task.
  • Able to empty cases of glass and dump on moving conveyor at a weight of 18 – 21 lbs. per box at a rate of 650 cases per hour for up to 30-minute intervals.
  • Able to lift, carry and stack cases up to 50 lbs, while maintaining the production flow for up to 30- minute intervals.
  • Able to climb ladders and use stairs.
  • Able to frequently lift, squat, bend, and pivot for up to 2.5-hours intervals to perform job functions.
  • Able to sweep/mop floor with a broom/mop and bend and sweep/squeeze debris into dustpan or bucket.
  • Able to work flexible shifts and schedules, including overtime.
  • Able to use proper safety equipment and follow all safety procedures
