Packaging Procurement Specialist (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

Job Summary:

Responsible for purchasing packaging materials that meet the logistics, demand, quality and price required to sustain the bottling schedules of our wineries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

PURCHASING SUPPORT (40%):

  • Coordinate ordering of packaging materials (glass, corks, capsules and labels) to meet bottling schedules at all production locations.
  • Provide monthly projected requirements to vendors for planning purposes. 
  • Purchase selected packaging materials within standard cost guidelines.
  • Creation of Purchase Orders in accordance with company guidelines and established pricing, route for approval and transmit to vendor with appropriate Terms and Conditions.
  • Assist in item set up, data entry, and Bill of Materials in planning and purchasing systems. 
  • Analysis of packaging costs and variances. 

 

QUALITY AND VENDOR MANAGEMENT SUPPORT (35%):

  • Documentation of quality issues, vendor communication and costs associated with these issues. 
  • Responsible for tracking and follow through on all packaging holds and product rework. 
  • Assist with in designing and coordinating packaging testing.
  • Work closely with Vendors’ technical people to resolve packaging issues.

LOGISTICS AND INVENTORY CONTROL (10%):

  • Manage requirements and transportation of packaging from outside storage locations to bottling locations.   
  • Responsible for the logistics and inventory control of packaging materials.   

NEW PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT (10%):

  • Assist with development of new packaging for FFCW and private label.
  • Develop specifications for packaging.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT (5%):

  • Cross train to provide back up for other members of Purchasing and Logistics Team. 
  • Documentation of Standard Operating Procedures as directed.
  • Data entry as required.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

No direct supervisory responsibilities. 

Job Requirements:

Education/Experience:  College degree in Supply Chain Management or related field is desirable. A minimum three years’ experience in purchasing of packaging or wine packaging is required for anyone not having a related degree. Familiarity with basic supply chain principles is essential.  Broad based experience in ERP, packaging, costing, winery operations and new systems implementation is beneficial.

  • Ability to develop spreadsheets to summarize and reflect comparative data.
  • Ability to calculate percentages, variances and unit of measure conversions.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions without supervision. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Positions may require extended hours or overtime to accommodate special projects or vacation coverage.
