Position Summary:

Full-time, benefited position with the Agricultural Foundation of California State University, Fresno. The Agricultural Foundation of California State University, Fresno is composed of approximately 27 enterprise units that provide our students with a hands-on experience by operating and managing the University Farm Laboratory. The University Farm Laboratory is a vital part of the education program for the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology and is used to support courses offered by the seven departments within the college. The Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm Market is one of the enterprise units which sells products that are grown, harvested, processed, produced, and/or created by Fresno State students. The Agricultural Foundation reinvests any surplus funds back into equipment, facilities, and operations, in order to help ensure the long-term viability of this important laboratory for our students.

Essential Job Functions:

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

·         Responsible for all-inclusive wine production and processing, including coordination of daily commercial wine processing activities including grape deliveries from Fresno State and off-campus growers; barrel room operations; tasting and the bottling process and maintaining an adequate level of winery supplies for all stages of processing

·         Ensures the maintenance of the winery facilities and equipment by performing regular maintenance, and coordinating winery maintenance requirements with outside contractors

·         Responsible for integration of winery operations with instruction and research by supervising assistant technicians and student employees

·         Maintains a safe working environment for all student, staff, faculty and visitors using the facility

·         Ensures the appearance of the enterprise is appropriate

·         Develops and maintains a calendar integrating production goals with student activities and pilot-scale research projects

·         Ensures financial accountability for the winery enterprise by preparing invoices for accounts payable and payment authorizations for suppliers; regularly monitors financial statements and assists in the coordination and development of the annual operating budget

·         Ensures winery compliance with state and federal laws and regulations by preparing and maintaining monthly, quarterly and annual reports and records (including inventories and tax payments) including preparation and submission of labels for government approval

·         Develops and implements marketing strategies for the winery, including assisting with winery sales and participating in public relations and outreach activities as required

  • Other related duties as assigned

Qualifications and Experience:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Enology or Viticulture from a four-year college or university

·         Minimum two (2) years of experience in Winemaking

·         Must have a valid Class “C” driver’s license with a clear DMV record

  • Demonstrated experience in working in collaboration with other professionals
  • Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 100 pounds

Compensation:

$4,166.66 - $5,000.00 per month, DOE. Benefits include health, dental, vision and life insurance, vacation, sick leave and holiday pay.
