Wine & Spirit Sales Person (Wine Jobs: Wine Retail & Sommelier)

Elma Liquor is seeking a part-time employee to work various weekend and weekday shifts. This employee must be willing to commit to primarily afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts. We are seeking an energetic person with an interest in wine and/or spirits and a willingness to learn. The ideal candidate will be eager to communicate with customers, share opinions on products, and work cooperatively with other staff.

This is a great opportunity for someone aspiring to a career in the wonderful world of wine. The selected candidate will have the chance to taste a wide variety of wines, aid in making product decisions, attend various industry events, and discuss wine at great lengths with novices and oenophiles alike.

Tasks:

• Provide excellent customer service, ensuring all customers’ needs and expectations are met and exceeded.
• Open and close the store depending on shift.
• Cash out customers and/or bag goods depending on the shift.
• Restock shelves and wine racks throughout the shift.
• Advise customers on product selection utilizing knowledge of wine and spirits.
• Dust, sweep, mop, and otherwise assist in keeping the store looking clean and presentable at all times.
• Answer the phone and provide information, advice, and directions to the store as needed.
• Work together with and follow instructions from manager or more experienced employees as necessary.
• Perform any other reasonable task as required by management.

Requirements:

• Friendly demeanor; eagerness to provide excellent customer service
• Experience with direct customer service (preferably in a retail setting)
• Ability and willingness to make casual small talk and otherwise act friendly towards all customers and coworkers
• Knowledge of wine and/or spirits in order to appropriately advice in customer decisions
• Ability to compute discounts, tax, and other basic mathematical problems
• Ability to use computers, particularly the Point of Sale software (running on an iPad) after training
• Ability to lift and carry boxes or glass bottles filled with liquid which may weigh up to 50lbs (realistically most are much less than this)

 

 

 

 

 

 

Compensation will be hourly, with opportunity for growth into a full time position. Rate will depend on the qualifications of the candidate.
