Job Summary

The Wine and Beer Store Manager is responsible for managing the sales and operations of the store ensuring sales, profitability and customer experience goals are met. The position is responsible for hiring, training, directing and monitoring all department staff.  This position will work in coordination with the Store Support Center’s Purchasing department in product selection and promotion, as well as the Store Support Center’s Marketing department on local marketing and community outreach.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include the following essential functions, but are not limited to:

  • Daily Operations
    • Exemplifying integrity, responsibility, excellence and adhering to all policies
    • Ordering product for the department and maintaining accurate inventory levels
    • Managing margin, COGs and overall department profitability including minimizing shrink and maximizing effective purchasing
    • Ensuring all in-stock products/conditions meet company standards.
    • Managing and participating in tagging, facing, rotating, cleaning, markdowns, stocking, and back stock
    • Opening and closing of store and related duties
    • Handling cash register transactions including, managing customer returnsand covering register shift changes, including those for scheduled breaks.
    • Ensuring store paperwork and reports are completed on time
    • Communicating  issues with the Store Support Center and ensuring proper resolution
    • Ensuring safety guidelines are followed at all times
  • Customer Service
    • Providing World Class Customer Service as a number one priority
    • Creating an inviting, clean and easy to shop department
    • Assisting customers with questions or suggestions by using your knowledge of the store products
    • Managing / defusing and resolving any customer confrontations /conflicts
    • Handling customer complaints appropriately
    • Identifying and ensuring customer favorites are in stock
    • Educating the store team and customers on new or specialized items
  • Daily Personnel Management

    • Interviewing, hiring and training of team members
    • Preparing and managing team scheduling
    • Establishing procedures that comply with store policies and appropriate laws
    • Monitoring of  department personnel including assigning and following up on tasks
  • Working with other managers to cross-train staff
  •  
    • Ensuring store staff is in compliance with applicable state/county/city regulations and certification requirements.
    • Executing on  communications requiring action (memos, faxes, emails) from Store Support Center and ensuring critical information is shared with store staff
  • Completing and conducting all performance evaluations, addressing all performance issues and/or disciplinary issues appropriately and in a timely manner with the assistance of Human Resources.
  • Conducting monthly staff meetings and posting company information and announcements as appropriate
  • Managing payroll edits for store staff
  • Merchandising and Marketing
  •  
    • Coordinating with Store Support Center Purchasing:
      • Evaluate new items and slow sellers to ensure optimum item mix for maximum sales
      • Plan promotions and sales
    • Merchandising shelves, endcaps and dynamic displays
    • Scheduling demos per permit allowances
    • Coordinating with Store Support Center Marketing and Nutrition Education Department
      • Plan/create special events, outreach, event/promotional flyers , educational  brochures and signage
  • General
    • Work schedule is based on store needs which includes evenings, weekend and holidays
    • Remains flexible to changing work demands in order to accomplish goals
    • Be professional at all times and provide appropriate leadership for the staff and the store.
    • This work involves standing and walking continuously throughout the shift, and lifting cases weighing up to 50 pounds.

Although this is a general outline of job responsibilities all employees are expected to be “hands on” and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive.

Qualifications

Education, Skills & Experience:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
  • High School diploma or GED required; 4 year degree in business preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of liquor store management experience
  • Knowledgeable about beer, wine and cider product varieties, quality and complements
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills with strong cooperative relationship building skills
  • Ability to train and educate staff and customers and role model excellent customer service skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze results 
  • Experience with SAP ERP systems preferred
  • Ability to pass applicable food safety training courses and/or testing to obtain certifications as required by state/county/city regulation.  Maintain compliance by keeping certifications up to date through continuing education and registered with the appropriate agency if applicable. 
  • Possess a sense of urgency in the completion of tasks and stays focused on the task at hand.
  • Must be highly organized, possess great attention to detail, and have the ability to take direction and manage changing priorities.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel and Outlook
