Asst Professor of Practice/Distilled Spirits (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

We seek applications for an Assistant Professor of Practice, Distilled Spirits which will be a full-time (1.0 FTE), 9-month fixed-term appointment:  55% Teaching, 20% Outreach, 15% Research, and 10% Service.  Note that an Assistant Professor of Practice has academic rank, is eligible for promotion, and is a non-tenure-track faculty appointment with a major emphasis on teaching, outreach and professional practice knowledge/skills.  A minor emphasis on research is expected.  This position will support the instructional, advising, outreach, and research needs of the newly created Distilled Spirits program within the undergraduate Fermentation Science option in Food Science and Technology.  The incumbent will be responsible for developing and building a new instructional and outreach program in Distilled Spirits.  Primary focus in instruction will be developing and teaching new classes on the fundamentals of distilled spirits production, maturation, packaging and regulations which will include corresponding laboratory instruction in distillation science, engineering and applications.   

Required qualifications include an MS in Food Science, Distillation, Fermentation Science, Chemical Engineering or related field and professional experience in the distilled spirits sector of the food/beverage industry.  Teaching experience and demonstration of teaching effectiveness in a relevant field of study in traditional or non-traditional settings.  Ability to communicate with and relate well to a diverse body of students while maintaining discretion, diplomacy, and confidentiality.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills.  A demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusiveness, including the ability to work with diverse faculty, students, industry clientele, and stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications include extensive professional experience in the distilled spirits industry.  PhD degree in Food Science, Fermentation Science, Distillation, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.  Teaching experience in a relevant field of study in classroom, laboratory or online environments.  Advising experience at the college or university level.
