Clos Pegase Winery is seeking a highly motivated, knowledgeable and wine-inspired individual to own the role of Assistant Winemaker. We are looking for a take-charge charismatic leader for our production team who can hit the ground running on day one and work together with the rest of our team to continue the elevation in quality of our artisanal Napa Valley Estate wines. Ideal candidates will possess a full range of Cellar and Laboratory knowledge and experience and be able to mentor current, new and seasonal employees in the Clos Pegase winemaking details. This unique individual will take direction from the VP Winemaker, but will function independently in the majority of day-to-day activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (but are not limited to):
- Schedule and coordinate all production activities.
- Train and supervise all production employees, and actively monitor performance and achievement.
- Coordinate with Lab for all additions to juice and wine based on analytical results and/or desired winemaking goals.
- Coordinate labor and shipping associated with all Cellar activities, including bottling (dry goods in/bottled goods out), harvest and bulk wine and barrel sales.
- Based on inventories developed and maintained by Cellar Lead, order supplies, including juice and wine additives, bottling dry goods, sanitation and cleaning chemicals, etc.
- Understand operating principles and capable of operating all winery production and laboratory equipment, including but not limited to complete bottling line operations, harvest equipment, DE, plate-and-frame and membrane filters. Schedule preventative maintenance.
- Guarantee accurate and timely cellar records with Winemaker’s Database (WMDB) and produce monthly 702 and annual bulk wine tracking reports.
- Ensure all compliance-oriented wine specifications meet the full legal obligations according to the TTB and ABC.
- Schedule, execute and participate in tasting panels for quality assessment and wine blends and prepare sensory trials.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in enology, viticulture or a related field and more than two years directly related experience; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is required for this position. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office and wine production software. Spanish language ability a plus.
Must already be qualified to work in the US.
Valid California Driver's License and clean DMV record required.
