Objective and Scope of Position:
The Production Manager is a key member of the management team that is responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient winemaking, bottling and cellaring operations in a custom wine making environment that deals with hundreds of lots and multiple clients.  This position reports to the President, overseas the wine production team and cellar/ operations staff and must balance a busy and dynamic work order and production load while keeping the team and operations organized and running smoothly.  At the same time, this person will be customer-facing and able to demonstrate and articulate the clear benefits of our operations in a way that will give customers confidence to entrust their business with us repeatedly.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manages the cellar workflow of winemaking plans.

  • Supports the Cellarmaster in directing the cellar team in the execution of their responsibilities to ensure meeting the objectives for producing the quality and quantity of products specified and ensure accurate completion of work orders.

  • Identifies opportunities to improve the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of the cellar.

  • Analyzes, evaluates, recommends, and obtains approval and implements operating practices and improvements in procurement for cellar operations.

  • Oversees the pricing and purchasing of cellar supplies and equipment, and sourcing of competitive bids for best pricing. Understands and provides a balance between lowest cost and best quality in the cellar. Monitors and speaks to monthly cellar budget justifications.

  • Optimizes labor resources to ensure maximum efficiency, safety, and quality of work to be accomplished.

  • During harvest, manages staffing, logistics, scheduling and processes for all cellar operations.

  • Ensures adherence of cellar compliance with SOP's. Work with the Cellarmaster in organizing meetings with staff to gain input and insight.

  • Monitor and document staff performance and provide ongoing feedback for continuous development.

  • Provide safe and healthy working conditions at all times; evaluate and enforce company safety procedures.

  • Oversee repair and maintenance of all cellar, bottling and crush equipment; coordinate corrective action of cellar, bottling and crush equipment failures.

  • Maintain a meticulously clean and organized cellar, crush and bottling area.

  • Responsible for training new staff on crush and bottling line procedures, sanitation and safety practices.

  • Oversee quality control on bottling and production of wine ensuring the proper sterilization and sanitation of crush equipment, bottling equipment, pumps and lines.

  • Coordinates with Human Resources on employee relations issues as they arise, new hire paperwork, performance reviews, development and implementation of training programs.

  • Coordinates with trucking companies/ Receiving & Shipping

  • Assist winemaking staff as needed.

 

Required Experience/Skills

  • BA/BS degree

  • Ten years industry experience in a Production Manager Role.

  • Extremely organized with an ability to manage complex scheduling

  • Detail oriented and focused on processes and SOPs that adhere to strict guidelines

  • Articulate and enthusiastic in working with colleagues and customers

  • Comfortable working in a team environment while providing leadership and skills to develop your team
