Job Description:
This position supports winemaking and production by monitoring wine movements, coordinating wine bottling with winemaker, and maintaining the facility. The cellar staff person will serve as a liaison between the cellar and winemaker.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Cellar Technician will provide technical support for the winemaking team by directing flow of daily cellar functions regarding work orders, bulk wine tank inventory, equipment repair and maintenance, and bottling during the majority of the work week.
• Conduct daily check list of major mechanical systems: glycol chillers, pumps, presses, crushers, fork-lifts and more.
• Distribute and facilitate the execution of work orders
• Performs all required established cellar procedures to meet cellar demands
• Communicates with winemaker on a daily activities
• Maintains and documents accuracy and precision of lab instrumentation/analyses
• Updates bulk wine tank inventory daily
• Cross flow filtering knowledge required
Experience:
• A.A. or B.S. degree, preferably including viticulture or enology course work.
• 5 years of cellar experience. Supervisorial experience desired.
• Knowledge of winery processes and mechanical skills related to cellar equipment
Qualifications:
• Highly organized and detail oriented
• Strong math and computer skills
• Ability to multitask and work in a fast paced environment
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to work flexible and extended hours as the harvest season dictates
• Bilingual preferred
Work Environment:
• May sit or stand for an extended period of time
• May lift up to 50 lbs.
• Work with chemicals that require protective equipment (goggles, etc.)
