Retail Market Analyst (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Total Wine & More is currently searching for a Market Analyst to join its Pricing and Assortment Planning team. A Market Specialist must be able to articulate to all levels their assigned market’s competitive environment and Total Wine’s optimal positioning within the market relative to price. You will be responsible for analyzing the retail environment in your markets, making day to day adjustments to TW pricing and recommending long term strategy as related to promotional & every day pricing and competitive positioning. This individual will be a key resource for executive management in determining Total Wine & More’s retail strategy by market and competitor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Stay abreast of all competitors in assigned markets – number of stores, expansion in stores, closings, new competitors.
• Analyze and formulate a position relative to all significant competitors (in the alcohol beverage space) go to market strategies - to include overall marketing approach, specific promotional & regular pricing, deal purchasing, gross margin targets/standards, competitive responses, etc.
• Based on competitive analytics, recommend which competitors to comp shop for everyday pricing & frequency of shops and which competitors should be monitored daily for promotional activity.
• Perform daily reviews of all advertised prices by targeted competitors; both item mix and pricing, based on market analytics and working with supply chain & respective field lead determine if any price changes are recommended.
• Review and analyze sales trends at department, category and item level between markets for opportunities to drive sales and margin.  To include “hot” new items.
• Work with the Market Management team to monitor wholesalers serving your markets relative to new items, deals, quantity discounts, cost changes, deals across markets, support, relationship with Total Wine, etc.
• Work with other departments to determine the items to be advertised by market and the retail pricing of those items, specifically work as team with market management, purchasing, advertising and customer analytics teams.
• Work with field leaders to resolve all day to day pricing issues, work with pricing team to implement and maintain optimal pricing.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Experience, Skills and Education:
• Undergraduate degree with analytics or finance specialization
• 2 to 6 years as an analyst in a mid to large retailer or 4 to 8 years’ experience as an analyst in the alcohol beverage industry
• High level user of Excel. Knowledge of data warehouse tools and exposure to reporting tools
• Strong communicator, with ability to work effectively with all levels in a collaborative manner
• Loves to solve problems or overcome challenges
• Team player, takes pride in a job well done, comfortable giving the team credit, understands success comes only when the team excels 
• Ability to think outside of the lines, but also capable of supporting ideas with a rigorous fact based approach to decision making
• Capable of synthesizing data from diverse sources into actionable recommendations 
• Willing and happy to get involved in the lowest level of detail and in the highest level of decision making

Preferred Experience, Skills and Education:
• MBA or equivalent work experience preferred 
• Experience with SQL and/or Access
