Description
The scope of this position is to review and approve all packaging specifications for Hiram Walker, administer the packaging specification system, manage data integrity of business systems as related to packaging changes, and work with suppliers to transition design concept to artwork and specifications in the supplier production format. This position will be the key specification and database resource for each specific project that assigned from beginning to end (UPC generation thru BOM composition thru final manufacture of an approved component at a supplier).

Team Player – engage, support, and promote the vision/mission of the team

Design & Development Framework and Process – support the development and implementation of a structured “Design & Development” Process Framework including design considerations, specification development, supplier interaction, operations interaction, innovation, risk management and testing, product coding, and data maintenance.

Package Development – Provide technical knowledge and solutions for developing new and innovative or improving existing packaging. Ensure that the packaging will meet marketing, legal, customer and production objectives, as well as quality requirements and intended functionalities.

Specification System – Maintain a user friendly system that allows access to technical and graphical specifications for all applicable users including an applicable approvals process.

Database Management – Manage the issuance of product coding within GS1 standards. Manage the issuance of item numbers, bill of materials, and other pertinent data within the operations ERP system.

Compliance – Assist with managing the relevance, content, documentation, communication, and timeliness of the Design and Development activity. Ensure compliance with all applicable standards including all applicable Pernod Ricard governing principles, CFIA Standards, Provincial Liquor Board standards, ISO compliance, CSR compliance, TTB and US applicable agencies (NABCA, FDA, USDA)

New Product Development – Collaborate and support NPD to manage package change or development projects focused on delivering projects that meet time, cost, and quality expectations.

Supplier Press Approvals – Manage and facilitate supplier press approvals with marketing representation to validate artwork, specifications, and final package compliance, as needed.

Innovation and Cost Savings – Identify potential cost savings opportunities. Provide maximum access to the creativity, innovation, and technology available from the supply base.

Internal Customer Partnership, Communication, and Service – Manage and collaborate proactively with business partners to ensure early involvement in package design concepts, operations efficiency initiatives, cost savings initiatives, and new supply opportunities.

Accuracy – This role must perform at a high level of accuracy with supplier engineering groups, design agencies, and production facilities to ensure form, fit, and function of our packaging. This function’s approvals authorize the suppliers to produce. An error can result in high volume of incorrect items being produced and unfit for market use.

Testing – Set up and run line trials and packaging testing.

Quality – Assist with root cause analysis/investigations/testing of new and existing products, as needed.
Required Skills & Abilities:

Professional experience in the packaging industry and/or a bottling manufacturing environment

Familiar with packaging materials

Strong influencing, partnering and communication skills at multiple levels and disciplines

Excellent problem solving, analytical and details skills
-
Proficiency in MS Office, Illustrator Pro, and an operations ERP system (prefer JD Edwards)

Experience with consumer products

Travel – up to 10%
A Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Engineering, Engineering field, Quality or related fields or equivalent work experience is preferred.
