Winemaker (Wine Jobs: Vineyards & Cellars )

We are seeking a Winemaker to supervise all aspects of the company's wine production operations under the direction of its Head Winemaker. The Head Winemaker oversees the winery's winemaking, vineyard, and maintenance sections. The successful candidate will utilize their education, management experience, and production skills to improve the efficiency of this growing company.

The ideal candidate is someone who is currently employed as an Assistant Winemaker and is seeking career advancement, who has three or more years experience and wants to progress into a Winemaker position.

Summary of Duties Include:
• Lead the winery's winemaking section (4 Personnel).
• Collaborates with the Head Winemaker to ensure that all aspects of grape and wine processing are conducted promptly and to specification.
• Supervises grape harvest, crushing, fermentation, filtration, stabilization, blending, bench trials, bottling, quality control and finishing of wines.
• Assists the Head Winemaker with quality assessments of grapes prior to harvest and bulk wines prior to finishing.
• Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to enhance winery operations.
• Monitors wine in bulk storage to maintain quality with the assistance of the laboratory technician.
• Assists with cellar and bottling work as needed.
• Develop, review, and assess wine production operations on a continual basis to improve efficiency and wine quality.
• Manage and direct bottling operations.
• Manage packaging procurement and inventory management.
• Negotiate production materials and equipment costs with vendors, suppliers, and independent contractors to ensure best prices, work quality, and efficiency.
• Identify capacity limitations in cellar and production facilities.
• Assist the Head Winemaker in developing new cellar practices and procedures to improve efficiency as needed.
• Develop and implement long and short term production schedules.
• Oversee the installation of new and existing wine production equipment and develop procedures to train employees.
• Oversee warehouse operations.
• Ensure winery equipment is maintained in safe and good working condition.
• Supervise preventive maintenance procedures of the wine making equipment.
• Establish and maintain daily, monthly, and annual production schedules, maintenance records, and inventory records.
• Plan and oversee staff scheduling, training, advancement, evaluations, and general work of winemaking production employees in all activities.
• Responsible for safety compliance & training.


Qualifications:
• Bachelors of Science Degree in Enology
• Experience: Minimum of three years in wine production.
• Applicants that are not US Citizens must have a valid US Work Visa to apply.
• Knowledgeable of major aspects of wine production, equipment, and safety regulations.
• Ability to pass a drug screening and have no felony convictions.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
• Ability to effectively present recommendations through logical and analytical analysis.
• Ability to perform simple and complex mathematical conversions.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Self-motivated, innovative, and resourceful problem-solver.
• Must be organized and attention to detail oriented.
• Must be capable of working within constraints of deadlines.
• Ability to develop and use spreadsheets and databases.
• Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Wine Production Software.
• Must be capable of lifting 55 pounds and be in good physical condition.
• Class B Driver License, Forklift License, and Pesticide Applicator License is a plus.
• Experience with native and cool climate grapes is a plus.
