Tasting Room Manager (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

This will be a full time position wherein the Tasting Room Manager is responsible for supervising all daily operations in the tasting room. The Manager will be responsible for creating a friendly, educational, and enjoyable tasting room experience by working with and through the staff to increase sales, provide top-notch service, and exceed customer's expectations while visiting. The Tasting Room Manager is also responsible for maintaining proper staff/tasting room/inventory expenses, management of special events and off-site tastings, growth of the wine club and increasing sales therein, and overall management of tasting room floor operations.

Job Responsibilities
• Supervise tasting room staff daily operations
• Lead by example: provide a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for staff to develop and grow within their associate duties
• Have the ability to organize, properly staff, and maintain order even when absent from the tasting room
• Employ specific hospitality/management traits when conducting everyday managerial duties such as, but not limited to:
- Greet customers

- Conduct proper store opening and closing procedures

- Reconcile sales registers and cash, prepare deposits for reservations, inventory, etc. - WineWare POS

- Provide both a uniquely educational and conversational tasting while pouring wines for guests
- Complete daily/weekly/monthly tasks set out by GM
- Maintain cleanliness and appearance of the tasting room
- Track and increase as well as generate and execute ideas to build tasting room/retail sales
- Hire, train, schedule, supervise tasting room staff
- Carry out all responsibilities in accordance with house policy as well as VA ABC
- Host wine club, special events, and off-site tastings

Working Conditions:

• Scheduled to include weekends and holidays (busy season from Labor Day to Thanksgiving)
• Must be able to work regular work hours as well as overtime, for special events and during peak wine season
• Must be able to lift at least one case of wine (up to 50 pounds) as well as be able to set up and break down for special events
• Maintenance of tasting room cleanliness:

- washing wine glasses and dishes

- cleaning bathrooms and sweeping floors

- vacuuming, wiping down table tops, and taking out trash

Job Requirements


• Education: College (Bachelor's degree) or equivalent


• Experience: Prior Tasting Room Experience

- Hospitality or retail management experience, if applicable

• Must like/love wine and be willing to learn more about the subject as well as bring that enthusiasm to the tasting room

• Professional demeanor, with a relaxed/calming presence

• Communication skills and analytical skills, including:

- articulate rewritten and verbal skills

- mathematical skills

- computer skills (knowledge of Office, especially Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.)

- able to communicate with both staff, customers, vendors, and upper management

• Organizational skills of both time, money, and the ability to complete projects on time
