Tamarind Of London, the renowned UK Michelin-starred restaurant is currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Sommelier for our Newport Beach restaurant.

  

WINE SERVICE

  • Assist guests with wine, and champagne selection, considering their taste and budget when guiding them through the menu
  • Be fully able to explain how our wines, and champagne compliments the items on our food and dessert menu  
  • Ensure that all wine, and champagnes is presented and served correctly and that all pouring techniques are adhered to as specified by Tamarind standards          
  • Liaise with the Wine Manager and Duty Manager throughout service to ensure that guests’ needs are understood and fulfilled
  • Explain alternative wine or champagne selections to guests should their choice be unavailable
  • Ensure that the sommelier team assists with food service when required
  • Follow up with guests to ensure their satisfaction, to re-pour, and to potentially sell additional items as often as possible
  • Ensure all wine and champagne is entered into the POS system before being served
  • Assist waiters in clearing the tables on the way back from running wines or food to tables or whenever a waiter requests it
  • Ensure that all wines are correctly updated and described on wine lists (i.e., correct vintage, description, and price)
  • Ensure that all wine lists are in perfect condition at all times and determine the par levels for wine lists, keeping enough stock for efficient service
  • Assist management with any trade events on choice of wines, order quantities, glass selection, service style, timing, etc.
  • Be aware of all new wines and vintage changes when the wine list is reprinted
  • Ensure the ‘Wine Bible’ is up-to-date and accurate
  • Know and be able to describe all wines on the list

The Tamarind Collection owns and operates four restaurants in London along with a division of Tamarind Events Catering.

The group was established in 1995 with the opening of Tamarind restaurant in Mayfair, which was the first fine dining Indian restaurant in the world to receive a Michelin star. Currently Tamarind of Mayfair remains as one of only six Indian restaurants to hold the accolade.

The second restaurant in the group that marked further expansion was Imli in Soho, London (2005). In February 2013 Imli was re-branded and now offers Indian street food served in a chic and stylish environment.

Due to open in March, One Kensington will offer local and destination clientele a superb new space in which to enjoy all day dining or to simply socialise with friends or colleagues in stylish but convivial surroundings. Guests will be able to visit at any time, whether it’s for a leisurely breakfast, a timely lunch, afternoon tea, a romantic dinner or simply a glass of champagne overlooking Kensington Palace Gardens.

The group also diversified into Tamarind Events and our successful outside catering operation has served high profile clients including Asia House, Grant Thornton. Tamarind Events are the preferred Indian caterer at number of prestigious venues in the UK, including Lords Cricket Ground, English Heritage and the Science Museum.

Over the years the Tamarind Collection’s fundamental philosophy has remained unchanged; to prepare exquisite food and that is coupled with service that is approachable and unobtrusive in stylish environments.
